Wing Dang Dash is back as well

After a long two-year absence due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Forest’s premier event, The Wing Dang Doodle Festival returns to the city September 24.

“Don’t miss all the fun at this year’s Wing Dang Doodle Festival at Gaddis Park,” the Forest Area Chamber of Commerce, spononsor of the event, wrote on social media. “Bring a lawn chair and enjoy great wings, lots of shopping, great entertainment and much more.”

The deadline for entry in the chicken wing cooking contest is September 14. Wings will be provided for each team, and all wings will be judged in one category regardless of the method of preparation.

In addition to the chicken wing cooking contest, there will be a corn hole tournament and soccer tournament added to the 2022 event and the Wing Dang Dash is back as well.

The 5k run/walk begin at 8:00 a.m. and the 1/2 mile kids fun run begins shortly after. The t-shirt guarantee deadline has already passed for the run/walk but late registration is still open. The entry fee for the 5k is $25/$30 on race day. The entry fee for the kids fun run is $10/$15 on race day. No refunds will be issued. 

The awards presentation will begin after opening ceremoines for the following categories.

• 5K Run Awards: Male and Female:

Overall male/female, and top three in each age group will be awarded medals. 19 and under, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70 over

• 5K Walk Awards: Male and Female

Overall male/female, and top three in each age group will be awarded medals. 19 and under, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70 & over

This year’s headliner will be Central Trust Band with Valerie Clark and Joey Massey. 

Vendor applications for the festival will be accepted until September 12.

1. Merchandise and services displayed and sold in the commercial section should be high quality and not present a hazard to the public.  Items such as sparklers, fireworks, knives firearms, pepper sprays, poppers, canned string, drug paraphernalia, pornographic materials, etc. will not be permitted. The sale of animals or pets of any kind will be prohibited. 

2. The uniqueness and originality of a vendor’s products or services and the physical characteristics of a booth will be considered in the selection process.  The Wing Dang Doodle Committee reserves the right to limit the number of vendors selling any type of merchandise and to exclude any display or merchandise deemed unsuitable.

3. Designated Wing Dang Doodle sponsors have been granted exclusives for the products.  Vendors may not sell, display, dispense without charge, or advertise similar products or lines of products from companies other than Wing Dang Doodle sponsors.

1. Booths accepted must fit within the space purchased.  This includes tie down, trailer tongues, pop-up windows, etc. Encroachment on adjacent spaces is not permitted.  Each booth space is 12 by 15 feet in size.

2. Only items which have been listed on the pre-application and approved by the Wing Dang Doodle committee will be allowed for sale or display at your booth.  

3. No advertisements or signs for vendors are permitted outside the designated booth space.  Use of sound amplification devices and audio equipment (bullhorns, P.A. systems) is strictly prohibited within the booth areas.

5. An Arts and Crafts Booth is classified as any booth selling or distributing ONLY handmade items. If the booth has any items not handmade, they will be considered a commercial booth. A Food Vendor is considered any booth that sells or distributes any type of food or beverage, including water. 

6. Any non-profit organization distributing free items will not be charged a space rental fee. Any non-profit organization selling any type of merchandise will be treated as an arts and crafts vendor ($50). 

7. The Wing Dang Doodle reserves the right to prohibit or close any vendor’s booth not in compliance with the rules and criteria set forth in this application.

8. Vendors should complete the attached application and return it along with your reservation fee by September 12, 2022.  A $25.00 late fee will be charged after the deadline. 

9. The Wing Dang Doodle Committee’s goal is to maintain the highest standards and to provide a wide variety of displays and products.

10. Any application not completed in its entirety may be returned.  The Committee reserves the right to reject any applicant.

11. Vendors will be assigned booth space on a first come, first serve basis. 

12. Vendors will not be allowed to give away free food or drinks of any kind.

13. At the end of the festival, vendors will be given an envelope to turn in sales tax to the Hospitality Tent based on their total sales for the day. This must be done before you leave. Each business is responsible for paying sales tax that day and checks are to be made payable to the Forest Area Chamber of Commerce.
